The storyteller
Mike Rust has been telling stories since the 1970s. He is based in Shropshire, although he started in Herefordshire, whilst he was a Morris dancer. He noticed a gap in the sessions after the dancing and embarked on a journey collecting and telling British folk tales. After traveling across several continents, Mike decided his role was to create opportunities for tellers to come to the UK. He is the founding director of Festival at the Edge in Much Wenlock in Shropshire and is also involved in the Whitby Folk Week. Mike has a keen interest in Jack stories and prides himself on the tales of the Welsh Marshes. But he also loves to listen to tellers from different cultures. In his later years Mike has learnt to play a few tunes on his nyckelharpa.
