Sherin Sarigulova is a folk singer and storyteller from Kyrgyzstan. Here she tells the tale of Saikal, the daughter of a nomad chief. A long time ago Kyrgyzstan’s national hero, Manas, went out to fight Saikal but ended up falling in love with her. Sherin tells the story from Saikal’s perspective. The film was originally recorded in 2016 by the BBC as part of its “100 Women” project. The film was produced by Paul Harris, Olga Ivshina and Gulnara Kasmambetova.
