John Mukeni, or “Titi” as he is fondly known, is from Nairobi. He started telling stories in 2007 with the popular group Zamaleo Acts Company. For him, folk tales are both a way to learn and to teach. They also allow people to express their feelings. He believes that adults and children will always be captivated by narratives from different cultures with their individual histories. He hopes to help expand the storytelling culture in Kenya and travel worldwide to participate in festivals, share his wisdom and collaborate with international storytellers. “The shortest distance between people is storytelling,” he says.
